Niacinamide: The Summer Transition

The sensible, designated driver your skin needs to organise the post-summer chaos.

A Queensland summer is spectacular, but by March, your face usually looks like it’s been through a washing machine on the heavy-duty cycle.

Between the relentless UV, the salt water, and the 90% humidity, your skin’s surface is often left looking exhausted, lacklustre, and feeling highly unpredictable.

Enter Niacinamide (Vitamin B3).

If your skin is currently making bad choices, Niacinamide is the designated driver. It’s the sensible friend who steps in, fully prepped with their excel spreadsheet and quietly organises the chaos.

⚗️ The Science

Cosmetically, Niacinamide is a water-soluble vitamin that acts as the ultimate multitasker. It contributes to the cellular environment (specifically the NAD⁺/NADP⁺ pool) that keeps your outer barrier feeling comfortable and resilient.

But its real superpower is visible clarity.

If your complexion is looking a little dull or patchy after months in the sun, Niacinamide helps intercept that lacklustre appearance. It promotes a beautifully uniform, radiant look and visibly balances surface oil, so you look naturally luminous – not like you’re sweating through a humid afternoon.

The Highfields Reality

Stability over Stunts

In the Highfields studio, we absolutely love formulating with it because it is the ultimate reliable professional.

However, Niacinamide has one non-negotiable rule: pH stability. While the “More is Better” crowd tries to jam 10% or 15% into a bottle (a marketing stunt that frequently leads to a red, stinging face), we focus on the 2% sweet spot.

By choosing stability and the correct concentration, we ensure that Niacinamide remains your skin’s most trusted ally for a calm, clear, and optimised transition into the cooler months.

Silky Rose Face Moisturiser

You might have noticed that our newly reformulated Rose Otto & Bergamot Silky Rose moisturiser intentionally does not contain Niacinamide. This is a deliberate formulation choice designed to give you absolute control over your actives.

By keeping Niacinamide as a dedicated, standalone step, we allow the moisturiser to focus entirely on deeply soothing the skin and locking in hydration.

Applying your Niacinamide active first, followed by the Niacinamide-free Rose Otto & Bergamot Silky Rose, ensures your skin gets the optimal 2-5% clinical sweet spot of Vitamin B3 without the risk of accidental ingredient compounding. The moisturiser then perfectly seals the protocol, utilising Panthenol, Bisabolol, and Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract to calm the skin, while Silk Amino Acids and Shea Butter secure the barrier.
