Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body naturally makes. It’s found in your skin and acts like a sponge for water.
On skincare labels you’ll often see Sodium Hyaluronate – that’s the water-soluble, super-skin-friendly version used in creams and serums. It helps the skin keep a healthy moisture balance.
Why people love it: It’s gentle, non-greasy, and works for dry, oily, sensitive, and combo skin because it adds water, not oil.
Think of HA as a humectant – a fancy word for “moisture magnet”. It pulls water into the outer layers of your skin so it feels comfortable and looks smoother. In clinical testing, HA serums boosted skin hydration right after use and kept improving over several weeks. That extra water makes fine lines look softer and the skin feel bouncier.
You might see products say they use different HA sizes:

HA is known for being gentle and pairs nicely with stronger ingredients (like retinol) that can be drying.
After cleansing, lightly pat your face so it's still a bit damp, then apply your HA product.
Follow with a moisturiser to "lock in" that water.
Use it daily. AM and/or PM.
